TEAM

Christopher Drumm

A product of Philadelphia’s Mayfair neighborhood, Drumm was taught the value of hard work and service to others early on by his father, a veteran of World War II, a factory worker and an active member of the International Union of Electrical Workers (IUEW), and his mother, a switchboard operator. Both of Drumm’s grandfathers served as Philadelphia Police officers, as do several of his relatives today. As a young man, Drumm was fortunate to attend Saint Joseph’s Prep School and, later, La Salle University, where he was named a Christian Brothers Scholar in recognition of his academic achievement. To put himself through college, Drumm unloaded trucks for the United Parcel Service as a member of Teamsters Local 623.

Drumm’s involvement in politics began with 1980s Pennsylvania primary as a statewide campus coordinator for U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy’s campaign for the presidency.  The effort yielded not only to a primary victory but lifelong friendships with Ed Rendell and Patrick Kennedy as well. Work in several other campaigns followed. In 1987, Drumm was elected Leader of Philadelphia’s 63rd Ward, the youngest person ever to hold that title. He was subsequently re-elected to the post several times, always unanimously.

Professionally, politics led Drumm to positions with Philadelphia City Council, the Delaware River Port Authority and the office of U.S. Rep. Robert Borski (D-PA). Drumm began his career as a lobbyist at Saint Joseph’s University, where he served as special advisor to the president and vice president for government affairs for nearly 10 years. Key accomplishments at Saint Joe’s include having secured $12.6 million in federal funding toward the construction of the National Center for Food Marketing, as well as significant state dollars for the university’s Labor, Food Safety and Emergency Preparedness programs.

While at Saint Joseph’s, Drumm successfully pursued a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Pennsylvania. Once more, he was recognized for academic achievement, this time as a Meyerson Scholar.

Drumm spent the last 20 years leading government affairs at AmeriHealth Caritas, where he played a crucial role during a remarkable period of profitable growth for the Philadelphia-based corporation. While at Caritas, Drumm was charged with both protecting the integrity of Pennsylvania’s managed care program and securing rate increases commensurate with the needs of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens. As the corporation’s principal liaison to the administrations of four governors, as many Senate presidents and eight House speakers, Drumm stood as the one constant, serving as an informed and effective voice for Pennsylvania’s poor.

In 2023, Drumm left AmeriHealth Caritas to form his own consulting firm, Drumm and Daughters LLC. His goal in doing so is to continue to expand his work on behalf of Pennsylvania’s Medicaid population.
